MAT DESCRIPTION DETAILS:
Andrea Behn was born in 1958 in Dortmund where she studied (1978-1983) design at the local art college. Her paintings have been shown at exhibitions in Dortmund (Ostwall Museum), Gelsenkirchen (Municipal Museum), Schwerte (Art – Union) and Gallery Malten. The evidence of her oeuvre is made visible by the superposition of different graphical lines and color fields, the latter ones are confronted with one another and tied together in harmonic accord. Owing to the placement on the canvas, these color fields are able to create an artificial space, whereby structures of lines and archaic shapes appear. Sculptural, even architectural forms can be vaguely seen within the diffusion of the painted surface. The graphical designed forms defy any distinct definition, objects can only be imagined, their significance is not plainly clear. In this case, the two silkscreens evoke the association of archetypal shapes of houses, their forms are reduced to the essence. However, this reduction is sufficient for the spectator to imagine further associations. Hence the artificial space is both o projection of inner spaces and an expression of spiritual physicology. The paintings articulate a kind of longing;a yearning for landscapes not being destroyed.
