Oskar
Oskar Koller (born 16 October 1925 in Erlangen , † May 17, 2004 in Fürth ) was a German painter and graphic artist.
Oskar Koller was born in 1925 in Erlangen. His mother came from the Upper Palatinate Kallmunz . A commercial apprenticeship Koller visited in 1947 , the then Vocational High School (now University of Applied Sciences for Design) Nuremberg. He was taught color theory and drawing. After some study trips inter alia to Italy, Austria , France in 1954 , he married his wife Yolande . To 1959 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg , where he was a master student Hermann Wilhelm . [ 1] At the Academy , he returned 1985/1986 as a visiting professor back . Koller 1957 had a scholarship from the DAAD in Bonn , Paris. At that time, Paris was the center of the current Western art . There, there was the first confrontation with abstract tendencies , and he began to paint his first abstract paintings. Oskar Koller: " By the time I found a signature style . I realized the more precise and clearer I put my creative means , the stronger were my pictures . Nevertheless, each new image is a challenge to the artistic development for me. This was a way for me in small steps . The more I dominated the pictorial means , the freer and bolder I could express myself , what do not last the fruits of the age visible. "Especially the watercolors made him known beyond his homeland . In this technique, he was his great strength , the seemingly effortless handling of color , play particularly well . The blots and splashes he sat very sensitive and sparingly , always trying not to get too narrow the imagination of the viewer . His favorite subjects were landscapes , flowers , trees , and especially the people . Since 1959, Koller worked as a freelance artist , numerous solo exhibitions at home and abroad have established his international reputation . His work was frequently honored with awards and prizes . Many published books , calendars, and TV reports have made him known to a broad public. At Nuremberg he was a member of the artist group " The Circle " with access to "Circle Gallery " against the Germanic Museum . In 2002, he established a foundation for his life's work " and will remain open to the public ." He transferred to the Foundation nearly 3,000 images. From January 2005 the Foundation at the Art Museum of Erlangen is permanently equipped with two rooms Koller works . Posthumously found large exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Nuremberg in 2004, 2005 at the Museum of Modern Art in Skopje / Macedonia, the art gallery and Fürth on the island of Mainau .
