DELAHAUT
Jo
Jo Delahaut ( 1911 - 1992 ) is an artist Belgian . It is one of the emblematic figures of geometric abstraction in Belgium. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, where he was a pupil of Auguste Mambour (1928-1934), doctor of art history from the University of Liege , he began painting canvases in 1940 Expressionists. Influenced by the style of the painter Auguste Herbin, it builds static geometric forms in which, initially, the color of surfaces plays the lead role. In 1946-47 he became the only artist to approach abstraction with a previously unknown radical. Over the years, his work is refi ned and arguably equivalent to American works of the "hard edge" and "minimalism."
